I am excited to announce the 2017 Summer Workshop Series here at the revamped Icehouse Studios! These workshops are tailored to support my voice students and other teens ages 14 and up seeking out a fun, yet serious program that teaches important tricks of the trade and prepares them for the professional world of music. Each of these workshops is uniquely designed to teach singers another perspective of the business, and skills needed for survival, as well as an appreciation. The hands-on approach offers a high learning curve and opportunity for singers to jump right in, which I feel is the best way to learn.

Classic Rock Workshop
BIG HAIR & BLACK LEATHER PANTS OPTIONAL!
Monday, June 19 – Thursday, June 22; 1 pm – 6 pm + evening performance 6/22
Put on your boots and hit the stage running! You may have fantasized about it, but this workshop brings your rock star dreams to fruition. We will be working from the Classic Rock catalogue- anywhere from Neil Young, to AC/DC, Bad Company to Led Zeppelin, Heart to Journey, The Pretenders to Janis Joplin. This four-day workshop is specifically tailored for intermediate and advanced singers ages 14 and up, who want to explore the nuances of Classic Rock. Various subjects covered will include technique, attitude, frontman 101 and being a support vocalist. Pre-requisites: Must be able to hold down a part and be willing to take risks as a performer. The week will conclude with a student concert accompanied by a live band at a real venue (TBA)! Singers will work on elements specific to Rock in both a group and one-on-one setting to polish their songs- each singer is required to sing a lead and be part of a background vocal trio. So ramble on down to the Icehouse because when the levee breaks, you’ll wish you were here!

Classic Soul Workshop

Monday, August 7 – Thursday, August 10; 1 pm – 6 pm + evening performance 8/10
Soul brothers and soul sisters, Divas and Divos, balladeers and funksters, here’s your opportunity to shine in the classic soul genre! In this Classic Soul Workshop, we will be re-discovering (or discovering for the first time!), the classics--From Sam Cooke to The Temptations to Aretha Franklin. We will use this classic period in American music as the basis for understanding today’s contemporary soul market and where it is heading. I predict a huge renaissance and we will be riding that wave. Working exclusively from the Classic R&B fakebooks. Amber encourages singers to share knowledge and music. Make space for your playlist to be expanded! Various subjects covered will include technique, attitude, frontman 101, and being a support vocalist.
